Make money from expired domain names.

As you already know, there are thousands of ways to make money online. Just to make sure, I’d like to add another way to make money online to that already numerous list. And that is to make money by buying domain names that have expired. Expired domains are domains that for whatever reason, the owner (previous owner now) did not pay the renewal fee of 9 bucks. That’s truly a lame way to lose a good domain, but it happens everyday.

What this means for you is opportunity. If the original owner wants the domain back you should be ethical and sell the domain back for at least $200, you make a quick profit and he/she gets back his/her domain. That aside, let’s talk about how you can make money by keeping the expired domain that you just purchased. You can access expired domain names by visiting godaddy and clicking on “domain auctions” which is the page that gives details on the Domain Name Aftermarket.

There are 2 reasons expired domain names are worthy investments:

1. They’ve been around for at least one year already so they have a history with which google is already familiar. This translates into better page and search engine rank than a site you just started.
2. More importantly these expired domain names already have TRAFFIC coming in on a daily basis. This is a huge advantage over having to start at zero for a new site. You can simply build onto what’s already there.

Here’s an example:

You just bought an expired domain for a whopping $9 that gets an average of 50 organic visits a day or 18,250 visits a year. If the only thing you did to monetize that site was use google adsense you would potentially make $365.05/year (18,250 x $0.02= $365). And that’s if you just left it alone and used only adsense! Take that same site and write a couple of posts a week and increase your traffic. Keep monetizing it with adsense AND add a few affiliate programs to your monetization efforts and you could increase your profit to $1240 or better in a year! And that’s just a conservative estimate, I’m sure you could make over 25 sales as an affiliate in a year.

The Math:

Expenses: $8.99 for an expired domain name that receives 50 visitors/day

Vists/Year: 50*365= 18,250

Yearly Profit Potential from adsense ONLY: 18,250*.02=$365 or $1/day

Conservative Profit Potential with affiliate sales ONLY: sales *commission or 25*35=$875/year

Yearly Profit Potential with adsense and affiliate sales: 365+875=$1240

Yearly Profit Potential with 100 Similar Sites: sites*profits or 100*$1240=$124,000.

And that’s all there is to making money from expired domain names!
